Who said they don't like Mondays? I love Mondays! And today was no exception, bringing with it a cruisey change of pace for Day 6 of Korea-snow.com's Krazy Korean Adventure and Konjiam Resort with JK and the Snowple Crew. What a great place! Situated within the southern suburbs of Seoul and a mere 45 minutes from the downtown metropolis, Konjiam Resort is the newest on the Korean resort block.

Day 6: Konjiam Resort with the Snowple Crew

A purpose-built facility pitching itself as a year round attraction, during snow season the Konjiam provides a free transport service for 5 or more people if booked the night before. As it's open nearly 24 hours, this makes it possible for snow sport enthusiasts to finish work, head up the mountain and ski the evening (instead of going to the movies or shopping). Perfect for all of those who work weird and wonderful Korean work hours! With a policy of restricting the amount of skiers on the slopes to 7,000 per hour, you can buy slope time by the hour (a 2 hour minimum applies) providing maximum flexibility for the Seoul market. But let's cut to the chase: the resort is small to medium-sized, with around 6 trails of varying degrees. It's not completely snow-sure and relies on constant snowmaking (Koreans have become world expert snowmakers) and around-the-clock grooming to make the place function. If you are looking at making this your snow holiday destination, we suggest a rethink. This is a fantastic day trip from Seoul option and should be number 1 on your list. Perfect for that day off from a working holiday or transit day in Seoul if you want to experience something different. Konjiam has all the bells and whistles: good and reasonably priced ski rentals; learner facilities; a decent wide trail run; a small snowboard park and a great black diamond run. Something for everyone. And did I mention the large selection of cafes including Asian food, western takeaway and a great little Italian fine-dining restaurant that it worthy of a mention. The extensive wine list included some Australian varietals and I got to sip on a lovely little Aussie red and treat my hosts JK and Woong-jin from Snowple to some delights from Downunder. It was the least I could do to thank them for taking the time out to come and spend the day showing me around Konjiam. What a fabulous day of pristine skiing, riding eating and having a great day! Tomorrow is Day 7 we are off to Yangji Pine Ski Valley and Jisan Forest Resort. The crew from Snowple will be joining us once more so why don't you too? See you there!
