So, after successive sessions over 18 months in Korea, NZ and more recently Oz, it’s definitely time for some 'fashions on the fields' commentary to see who gets the all things bright and beautiful award.
First up, Australia. Can Oz snow goers be any more drab in their attire? Red, white, blue and black dominate with some kind of European alpine theme going on. There are smatterings of neon, and a bit of ‘onesie’ fun happening but all in all, boring! Loosen up people and get rid of the Berghaus blues!
NZ snowgoers are a little more adventurous and colourful, with earthy tones and loose fitting tall shirts all the rage. Bright hues and neon also abound, with mismatched prints and designs working it. Not to mention funky chicks looking smoking in this season’s skinny fit pants. Check out local NZ labels RPM Apparel Co and Huffer for some wicked gear.
But the bright and beautiful award most definitely goes to our Korean northern neighbours, where colour, glitter and sparkles abound and a joie de vivre is expressed in all things ski wear.
The whackier and more outrageous the better, it seems. I love fashion watching on the Korean ski fields because it always makes me smile. People are smiling as colourfully as they dress. Check out labels Kareta, Romp and Venoti just to name a few.
So, maybe the southerners could take some inspiration from all things Korean and brighten up a bit. There’s nothing like colourful dress, a bluebird day and wicked snow to make you stop and think, gee it doesn’t get any better than this!
