Bordered by majestic mountains on one side and the sea on the other, the province of Gangwon-do is home to some of Korea’s most stunning natural wonders. Gangwon-do will also be the home of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics.

Nestled between snow-capped peaks, meandering rivers and dense forests are some fantastic world-class ski resorts. Only a 2 – 3 hour drive from Seoul the resorts have great facilities and infrastructure, an array of accommodation to suit all tastes and budget and slopes for all level of snow sports enthusiasts. There really is something for everyone. And if you need a break from a day on the mountain, there is plenty to see and do in the surrounding areas. Visit one of the many beautiful National Parks, go hiking in the snow, drive to a traditional Korean Buddhist temple or have a slide in one of the many indoor water parks.

O2 Ski Resort is situated near the small city of Taebaek, approximately a 3.5 hour drive from Seoul, where locals say the first snow falls and the last snow melts. Nestled high into the Taebaek Mountain Range, the resort provides a beautiful winter backdrop of postcard pictures. With state of the art infrastructure and on-resort facilities, this is a great family resort.

Situated up into the pristine Korean Alps a comfortable 3 hour drive from Seoul, High 1 Resort is named for its location as it is the highest ski resort in Korea and also one of the largest. An all season resort, High 1 offers great facilities for all experience levels and a large mountain to enjoy. Some of the highlights include a revolving restaurant at the top peak to take in the panoramic resort and mountain views, and an outdoor rock-climbing centre at the base of the mountain.

This pretty little resort is a popular weekend destination for locals during the winter months. Oak Valley Snow Park is named for the beautiful oak tree forest to one side and is another master planned golf and ski resort. The mountain is split in to, with the golf resort sitting on one side and the ski resort sitting on the other. The closest of all the Gangwon-do resorts to Seoul, Oak Valley is a treat and not to be missed.

Alpensia Ski Resort is a great little resort known for excellent snow quality and fantastic facilities. Tucked away in the valley behind Yongpyong Ski Resort Alpensia will also play host to a number of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic events, with high-tech infrastructure being a feature of this resort. Accommodation is situated around the ski house at the bottom of the mountain, making this is an ideal destination for families looking for a convenient ski-in, ski-out snow holiday experience and is an easy 2 – 3 hours from Seoul.

Daemyung Vivaldi Park Ski World is the ultimate master planned year round resort and offers lots of entertainment for all the family, as well as great slopes to enjoy. The first resort in Korea to offer night skiing, this place is popular with a younger crowd and those who just can’t get enough, with lifts and runs open 24 hours for the season. Situated an hour east of the capital, the Daemyung Vivaldi Park is easily accessible from Seoul, with a regular shuttle bus running during the winter months.

Welli Hilli Park (formerly Hyundai Sungwoo Resort) is a four-season recreation resort situated in stunning country. A beautiful 90-minute drive north east of Seoul into the Korean Alps, Welli Hilli is a really well designed resort and a particular favourite of snowboarders and snow park enthusiasts.
